Researcher position in statistics at agroparistech
A permanent research position in statistics is open at AgroParisTech/INRA on 'Approximate inference methods for complex systems'. Applications must be posted before february 28th.
The profile is described at www.inra.fr/drh/cr2013/profil-cr2.php?NumProfil=CR2-2013-8-MIA-1&langue=EN
Information regarding the application process can be found at www.inra.fr/drh/cr2013/inscriptions.php?langue=EN
Educational background: PhD or equivalent. Candidates should have
a good command of English. The successful candidates who have
not yet acquired postdoctoral training will be required to do
so, preferably abroad, after their probationary period (1st
year) and before being eligible for promotion to an Experienced
Research Scientist position (CR1).
Object of research and skills: Models used for ecology and
environment involve more and more complex dependence structures.
> The inference of such models is a difficult task that currently
> requires sophisticated Monte-Carlo simulation techniques.
> Mastering computational developments and convergence properties
> of these probabilistic inference tools is becoming a major stake
> to help understand the phenomena under study, to perform
> statistical predictions or to optimise decisions with regards to
> the case study’s specific risks. The successful candidate will
> be expected to contribute to the development of stochastic
> algorithms and/or approximate inference techniques, and to
> implement them. Experience in statistical modelling of complex
> data ( such as graphical models or spatio-temporal data) and a
> definite taste for biological applications and environmental
> sciences will be highly appreciated. Practical experience in
> Bayesian variational inference, ABC or particle methods, etc..
> will be welcome.
